Fire Wildomar / Murrieta California

Firefighters are responding to a blaze burning near Murrieta and Temecula this afternoon, which is sending a huge plume of smoke into the region. The Riverside County Fire Department says the fire is already estimated at 25 acres, though the acreage is expected to increase significantly with the next update.

The brush fire was first reported at 3:56 p.m. in the area of Clinton Keith and Tenaja roads, according to fire officials. It’s burning on the Santa Rosa Plateau, according to reports from the scene.

A thunderstorm cell moved through the area just prior to the fire, and it’s suspected a lightning strike could have ignited it.
